As a math tutor for 15 years, I have tutored hundreds of students from all the grade levels. I found most of the students were not comfortable with mathematics. More than 80% of them said, “the mathematics is very hard.” Why do most of the students find mathematics a hard subject and try to avoid it?
Creating a number friendly atmosphere at home is important. Begin by creating a math rich atmosphere. Early picture books to read with your child should have numbers and counting and others with matching patterns games and puzzles . Watch popular PBS children’s shows and quality educational DVDs . This way you will have some fun with early math ideas and establish a positive relationship with your child.

When a student copies the answers, does not work out the problem themselves, the student has not mastered the material. Yes work together to solve the worksheet, that is different. If you participate in helping to solve the problem with your classmates, then you are learning the material. But you are not fooling anyone by just copying the answers.
Let’s focus on a person who believes that he is overweight due to his genes. What this belief does is creates an attitude of “no matter what I do I’m going to be fat so I might as well enjoy myself and eat some doughnuts”. This person has relinquished all responsibility for his body. This gets compounded because his disempowering belief that he is predestined to be overweight actually alters his cells, so his cells will support his belief. His cells will alter themselves so that fat cells continue to build up on his body and his metabolism will slow down making it harder for him to lose the weight.
